A new week, and a new story arc!
Fun fact: Aleric feels really guilty that he didn’t get ANY comics done this past week… At least I had an excellent excuse… or at least, I’m told that being sick and feverish is an excellent excuse. Either way, I’ve got a lot to get done this week in preparation for Silicon. I won’t be there Friday, but I’ll show up all day Saturday and sunday.
Not too much else to bend your ear about today, just the same-old “remember to go VOTE! There’s a new PDQ up at Buzzcomix!” and… oh yeah… I just wanted to share my work method with you for a moment. Below, you see a scan of several pages, scribbled and crossed out… that’s all the drafts I went through for the current PDQ… Yes, that’s a total of 5 pages, 4 re-writes and a layout sketch.
With the PDQ challenge, I’ve been going through the list in order. This has caused me some trouble, as I’m not always really prepared to write about the next comic.
gentle reminder: COME SEE ME AT SILICON! (Because today, I’m drawing the Con-exclusive comic for it!)
See you there!
Aleric
Fun Fact: Aleric can’t draw his characters when he’s pretty sick.
Thank goodness he works ahead so you don’t have to suffer with him.
That’s right folks, Aleric is currently fighting off a rather pernicious head cold. Muzzy-headed doesn’t even begin to describe the difficulties my thoughts are having, hacking through the fog of medication, fever and congestion as I try to do my work. One might liken it to the struggle of a lone explorer, making their way through the deepest, thickest jungles of the Congo while in a fog-laden blizzard in white-out conditions.
Or, you might just say, “Aleric doesn’t feel well”.
Either way, I can’t do the comics I need to finish, I can’t do the other artwork I need to produce. The best I can do, it seems… is write. Not a bad thing in and of itself, but as my buffer shrinks, I worry more about getting comics done for you all to read.
Well, here’s to hoping that Aleric is better before his buffer runs out.
In the mean time, you might want to go VOTE! I promise something extra-special for the Monday newspost, something you might get a kick out of. Additionally, you will find that Aleric did another Guest Comic over at Gibberish! Gibberish is made by Chris Smith, and is a great new comic that he normally updates Mondays and Thursdays.
Go give him a read, let him know I sent you.
Finally, a quick reminder that I’ll be at SILICON! In fact, I’ve been added to the panel “What’s new in comics”. While I may not be up on in-print comic books, I do have some stuff to talk about in Webcomics.
See you there!
Hope you’re enjoying this series! There’s a couple more, and then we get to see Elise. Yeah, I’m a tease. I know.
Webmonkey Ben and I sat down this weekend, and between playing Burnout Paradise, Force Unleashed, Drawing an exact copy of the Sistine Chapel, and flying to the moon and back, we hashed out the draft of the new site, and order for which things will be going up. Some cool surprises (Like a fo… oh right… surprise) coming very shortly, so stay tuned!

Well, Webmonkey Ben tells me that no one’s sent him an email about something being broken on the new website. This means we’re going to be moving forward with moving ScottV.com to the new host as well. This still shouldn’t cause any problems for you folks, but don’t be surprised if typing “scottv.com” into your browser redirects you to “hellhasfoundme.com” for a while as we’re working.
This weekend, we’re gonna put our heads together and look at a plan to make the upgrades to the site, so coming soon, there will be an RSS Feed, Comment system, Forums… yeah, I know it sounds like I’m promising the moon, the stars and all the sky, but Webmonkey Ben tells me that it’s ALL POSSIBLE through the magic of the Intarwebs.
In other news, I’ve been desperately trying to not comment on the politics of the moment. I know you all come here for a laugh, not a sermon. I’ll endeavor to continue to restrain myself… we’ll see how it goes.
Remember to come see me at Silicon, I’ll have a new con-exclusive comic for any who drop by, and I’ll also be moderating a panel with Peter S. Beagle!!
Until Monday (and a new PDQ), have a great weekend!
ZOMG! NEW SITE!
Webmonkey Ben has been working diligently on converting Scottv.com to a new host and updating the code. We’re doing this conversion the same time as launching a NEW URL: www.hellhasfoundme.com. Converting to the new host will allow us to add wonderful things such as a forum, a comment system, an email-your-friends-a-great-comic-system, a front-page calendar archive with NEAT features, and MORE.
“AWESOME,” I can hear you say, “HOW CAN I HELP?!” Our resident Webmonkey has put the test site up over at www.hellhasfoundme.com. Right now it’s in the public beta test, so do us a favor and go poke it with a stick. If it breaks, let Webmonkey Ben know <webmonkey (at) scottv (dot) com>. If you think it looks fine and you can’t tell any difference, let Webmonkey Ben know <webmonkey (at) scottv (dot) com>. Heck, if you think the sky is falling… well, let Webmonkey Ben know <webmonkey (at) scottv (dot) com>. I’m sure he’ll be able to do something about it, even if it’s run around in circles, screaming in panic.
Most importantly: If you think the site is so terrible that you feel you should cleanse your computer in purifying fire for looking at the site, please let ME know <aleric (at) scottv (dot) com>! I promise I’ll think seriously about starting over. I might even do it for 30 whole seconds.
All joking aside, remember to go VOTE! There’s a new PDQ up at Buzzcomix (and on time, too) as of Monday morning!
Finally, remember to come see me at Silicon.
I know I mentioned that I might be going to the Steampunk convention, however, it’s looking more and more doubtful, and if I DO attend, I’ll most likely be going as a patron, and not an exhibitor.
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed today’s comic!
Aleric
PS: I just put up a pic on my Etsy account! you can find it here: Aleric’s Etsy store. Cool, huh!? I’ll be posting more very shortly, and adding the link to the website.
Ah, Elise, that’s really the best outfit a guy could ask for… err, well… hm.
So I went down a local burrito dispensary, you know, one of those wildly popular chains that sell fairly ‘Americanized’ Mexican food, and placed an order for quick burrito. In my bag, my napkin was printed with this:
WTF. I really hope this is a joke. I mean, really. Who would need an instruction manual on how to eat a wrapped burrito? Does someone think that you might be stupid enough to not notice the metallic sheen of the aluminum foil wrapped around your burrito? When was the last time that ANY food tasted good with a side of sheet metal? Heck, even the written instructions tell you when to use the napkin. I felt like I had just stepped into the world of Idiocracy. Which is a fantastic movie, by the way!
Well anyway, I wanted to send you out a reminder to VOTE for us on TWC, and if you haven’t seen this week’s PDQ, it’s waiting for you.
Silicon Update:
When I’m not sitting on my sweaty hands trembling like an overeager fanboy in the presence of Larry Niven or performing as moderator for a panel on Creating Worlds with Peter S. Beagle, I’ll be sitting at a table in the Artist’s colony giving away another unique Con-exclusive comic. Silicon runs from 10-3 through 10-5 and is only $50 (until Sept 14) to attend for the whole weekend!
Silicon has a lot going on for it this year, and I’m really looking forward to it. You can browse the events here, so check it out!!
See you all there!
…Aleric
Being the packrat that I am, I’ve always kept my old computer and video games around. It’s kind of disturbing actually: I have games dating back to the old Atari 2600, and I still keep a copy of Star Control on my computer. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy more current games like Dawn of War and WoW. Heck, I even just picked up a copy of Spore and I’m looking forward to Star Wars: Force Unleashed!
Still, I find it difficult to reconcile why I keep all these old games around, safe in the knowledge that I won’t run out of games to play any time soon. I can’t imagine today’s kids would find anything remotely interesting about Space Invaders or Combat.
In Other News:
I’ve been confirmed for Silicon! In fact, I’m actually going to be on a panel with Peter S. Beagle. For those not familiar, you may recognize him as the author of The Last Unicorn. Silicon runs from 10-3 through 10-5, and when I’m not pretending I’m actually cool enough to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the likes of Mr. Beagle and other Guests of Honor such as Larry Niven, I’ll be at a table in the Artist’s colony giving away another unique Con-exclusive comic.
Silicon has a lot going on for it this year, and I’m really looking forward to it. You can browse the events here, so check it out!!
Finally, the PDQ is going to be available a little later today, so if it’s not up when you VOTE, just check back. Sorry for that.
