Note: I’m going to leave this news post up through friday, so it will cover Stand ins: Space Marine #2 and beyond… See below.
Sending out a little more love for the 40k crowd. I hope James gets better soon. I dunno how much Rossi can take.
I’ve been reading a lot of books lately. I get into these cycles where I just devour books. I’ll read 3 or 5 of them. it’ll take me a few days to maybe a week for each, then I’ll dramatically slow down reading. I haven’t figured out if it’s a matter of me not being interested in the story I slow down on, or if it’s some strange circadian rhythm that has something to with the phase of the moon, the distance of the apogee of object 90376 in the Oort Cloud, whether my kitty Crash sneezed within the last week, or just what.
During my voracious reading period, the act of reading each of these books goes the same: the first quarter to third of the book I read fairly slowly. it takes me 2-3 days to read it. the second third of the book, I’m usually quite engaged and read it during my spare time, lunches, afternoons; this usually lasts a day or two. The final third of the book I do nothing else but read. Work suffers, food can wait, the Katgirl gets a little neglected, even sleep is put off for hours.
It’s almost physically painful to pull myself away from these fleeting obsessions. I can’t imagine how addicts start the road to recovery from more serious substances than books.
Still, the above is the reason that you only get zombie line art on my Deviantart feed over there to the right, and I’m late in putting up the news. For that, I apologize. If it makes you feel any better, I feel terribly guilty and plan on drowning the guilt in a tall glass of cold beer and some tasty chicken casserole tonight… inbetween putting editorial comments on a commissioned short story, painting another speed paint of Myen and the People, and working on 3 comics.
Yes, when I feel guilty, I make good food and work harder.
Remember to vote on buzzComix and Top Web Comics!
See you Friday!

PS! I’m going on vacation from July 26 through August 4th. Don’t worry, there will be regular comic updates (remember, I’m more than a month ahead on strips), but if you’re lucky, I might come back with some REALLY cool stuff. Just don’t count on relevant or regular news updates.
Well, this has been the longest story arc yet! I’m still banging away at doing more comics, with no end in sight. Remember that I’m going to be at Fanime 2008 over the Memorial Day Weekend (23-26) at the San Jose Convention Center! Free Comic to any who attend, and of course, I might be talked into doing sketches!
Oh, and I’ll be giving out a free copy of a special edition comic strip to anyone who comes by.
Cheers!
Aleric
Update @ 12:07pm:
Two quick notes:
1. Apparently, my binary copying skills suck… have you found the typos yet? (Thank you, Webmonkey Ben for pointing them out)
2. Today marks the first day that I actually got intelligent enough to include the website on the image… so a small think, but very important. Question is, did you notice before I pointed it out?
Aleric
Not much to talk about with this one, other than how I find it fun to work in all kinds of little references to this or that, a punch line here (literally) an object there… you get the picture. Keep an eye out. Most of them have something… some are just more obvious than others.
Been kind of a quiet week around here, the poor Webmonkey Ben has been sick with a horrific evil cold of DOOM. He’ll be better soon, but in the mean time, send him some well-wishing.
On the “Upcoming” front, I’ll be attending my first con (after starting this comic). Fanime 2008 is on Memorial Day Weekend (23-26) at the San Jose Convention Center. I’ll be at the Katgirl Studios table in Artist Alley, handing out a FREE Double-Length COMIC STRIP to anyone who wants one… that said, the free comic I made will become available online… sometime after the con is over. Meaning, of course, that I haven’t scheduled that comic yet… I may just make it available in the Extras section…
See you Friday!
Aleric
P.S.: VOTE! Votey vote vote (If you haven’t read the PDQ comic, vote, then read Teh Funni Comik)
Ok, so I know how it seems, but I promise, I don’t -hate- windows machines… they just make really easy targets.
I hope you all enjoyed the special Mum’s day comic. If you didn’t go check it out in the archives. I know at least two people other than me laughed… you might too.
So we’re still floating in the 300’s at the TWC, so Thank you!! I’ve been promoting HHFM to just about everyone I see, but I still want to get more. World domination through quality comics, right? Go tell a friend to read HHFM, then vote for it on TWC… if you do this week, you’ll get an extra special FULL PAGE funny comic. Not exactly HHFM, but very amusing in it’s own right.
Soooo… yeah.
See you Wednesday!
Back to the story arc! Ever notice how retailers seem to try really hard not to let you know about their competitors? It always kind of bothered me, even when working in retail. I’ve always thought that it was better service to get the customer what they want, regardless of where they got it. I mean if it were me, I’d be more willing to go back to the super helpful place first. But I guess I’m just weird.
Two SUPER DUPER important bits of News:
ONE: My buddy Dave Hughes over at Battlebarge posted a filler comic I did for him! Go give Battlebarge a read, It’s great stuff! So great, in fact, that when I get the new Links section up and running, his is gonna be the first one there!
TWO: Remember to come back Sunday for an EXTRA ELITE Special Super Extraordinary Sunday Edition comic! Kind of like a Epic weapon in WoW, only for comics. I’m tellin’ ya, it’s gonna be fantastic.
Really.
Oh and don’t forget to keep voting for HHFM on Top Web Comics! We’re in the mid-to high 200’s at last inspection!! (new incentive Monday!)
From the TMI file: in a game called Warhammer 40,000, technological know-how has devolved to a religion, where ‘tech-priests’ call on ‘machine spirits’ to ‘heal themselves’. Their machine-god is known as the Omnissiah, and they have to learn and follow ancient rites and prayers to revive and appease the machine spirits.
We call it cussing at the machine while we fix it.
Anyway, I’ve only gotten one poor, lonely single email about wanting desktop images… so unless I get more, it’ll be put on the backburner for a while so I can get other things finished. Either way, you all get more content, and I’m happy to do it.
As far as emails go, that one lonely email is sad all by himself. He needs friends to keep him company, (and to prevent me from singing to keep him company). So drop me a line! I’ll be sure to read it. Probably even respond to it! (gasp)
Someone asked me yesterday what voting for HHFM actually does, so I thought I’d tell you all as well. You know, in case you were wondering… or even if you weren’t… I would be ecstatic to make it to within the top 100 comics of TWC, because that puts a link for us on their front page. It’s a tool to get more readers, which encourages me to write more comics, so we can get more readers, so I write more… well you get the idea. I’m trying to turn a vicious cycle into a vortex of web-destruction that sucks everything into my comic, and thereby rule the world. So far, HHFM has made it all the way to the mid-450’s on Top Web Comics! So Clicky the Linky and add another vote!
See you next week!
