It’s Filler Week!
A fan commented recently that they just finished reading the entire archive and told me, “it’s really interesting to see how the art progresses!” So I thought it would be neat to put it all in one place, to show how the art actually has progressed. I even updated the comic into the current style.
Comics return Monday – with an actual buffer now and much better prepared for Wondercon! GLEE!
Some of you may recall this advert from some time ago…
I wasn’t even born at the time, but apparently, it’s a cultural heritage thing. Go figure.
Poor George.
AND WE’RE BACK!
Guess what! Check back tomorrow for a new PDQ! Yes, I’m starting them back up (thank goodness… or is it, “About damn time”?)
The next strip is Wed, so check back then, too.
Why YES, that IS a character sheet for something you’ve not seen before. Will you see it again? Yes. Soon? Maybe.
NOTABLE NOTES:
- FANIME is May 22-25. HHFM will be there. I will be there. In fact, I’ll be hosting two panels along with InkTank, Save Hiatus, and Timothy Green!
- Friday’s (late) comic was a full color, full page monster. Go check it out.
This is some pretty entertaining stuff, right? Woo.
/rolls eyes.
I was feeling pretty horrible about not actually making comics for you this week, pretty low all in all, thinking, “gosh, what kind of cartoonist am I, that I’m only giving you expression sheets?? Then a fan shared THIS with me. H. Davies only did ONE ROW a day… and suddenly I felt much better about myself.
ALERIC IS MOVING This week. Between packing, planning, driving, signing, buying, shipping, working, drawing and everything else I have to do, (including drinking Mimosas on the beach in Hawaii and hiking the Pacific Northwest for fun) Aleric just doesn’t have time to plan, script, sketch, ink, scan, correct, and properly fix comics for this week. that’s why you get character facial expression sheets.
STICK WITH ME, I know it’s boring. Since I’ve got 5 main characters, this is going to go on through the entire week, Monday through Friday, with a special surprise next Monday.
In Other news, I ‘missed’ last week’s PDQ (I’m really sorry). However, according to the poll on my DA account HERE one of two things are going to happen. either people will rejoice that I actually am, in fact, human (as opposed to some kind of Webcomics Terminator Robot)… OR… the world the world will collapse in a swirling maelstrom of Chaos and Death.
I’m risking the world here, folks… so don’t worry, I’ll make an extra PDQ soon to fill in the gap in the space-time continuum, AND I’ll let you know when it’s up.
OTHER NOTABLE NOTES:
1. FANIME is May 22-25. HHFM will be there. I will be there. In fact, I’ll be hosting two panels along with InkTank, Save Hiatus, and Timothy Green!
2. Friday’s (late) comic was a full color, full page monster. Go check it out.
3. Aleric is MOVING this week. See above.
That is all. We now return you to your regularly scheduled webcomic.
So here’s a little apology for running so late on friday. (if it’s monday and you don’t see a special comic, go back to friday… You won’t be disappointed… I hope.)
Additionally, In lieu of something actually thought provoking and deep, I present:
Aleric’s Take on Star Trek…
In short, I LOVED IT.
The Good:
There are more than enough nods and acknowledgments to the original series that the die-hard fans will have more than a few laughs and chuckles. The cast is (almost) perfectly selected and the writing was (for the most part) phenomenal. Extremely well directed, wonderfully performed with exciting effects that drive the story but also give the film a good visceral feel. All in all, the film was a lot of fun.
The Bad:
The bad guy didn’t get enough air time, which is unfortunate. you get enough out of him to understand where he’s coming from, but the story around him remains hollow. A number of times in the film I was really wondering “what is his motivation? What is he really trying to do here?” Fortunately, the most pressing of the questions are answered, but it was really distracting on occasion.
The Ugly:
The Writers and Director used a relatively classic Star Trek trick to free them from the cannon-driven narrative. They understood that Star Trek fans carry a lot of baggage around with them of what’s “right” and what’s not. While I won’t really get into what they did or how it works, I’ll say that it did a lot to engage the audience: Trekkies (Trekkors?) will more instinctively understand what’s going on with the cannon, and newcomers to the franchise will simply accept the narrative as presented.
hope you all enjoy it!
